Concert on Bruckner's Birthday in Ansfelden
On Anton Bruckner's 199th birthday, the Salzburg Hofmusik will use historical instruments to perform a harmonious and polyphonic "Happy Birthday!" in the form of four Brucknerhaus premieres in the great symphonist's hometown. The focus will be on Bruckner's private pupil, Mathilde Kralik von Meyrswalden, who was born in Linz and has been back in the public eye since the International Bruckner Festival Linz 2021, Julie Weber von Webenau and her granddaughter Vilma. "The names of our female composers can easily be written on a rose petal," Robert Schumann pointed out in his review of a work by Julie Weber von Webenau. "For a girl [...] must have ten times more reason to compose than we, who do it only for immortality's sake." The composer, a pupil of Wolfgang Amadé Mozart's son Franz Xaver Wolfgang, made this urgency audible in her L'Adieu et le Retour, dedicated to Schumann. The Piano Quartet in E minor by her granddaughter Vilma von Webenau, herself a pupil of Arnold Schönberg, on the other hand, builds a bridge to musical modernity. Surely "ten times more reason" not to miss this birthday concert!
